Merger Exploration

The City of Brantford, City of Cambridge and Township of North Dumfries are exploring a potential merger of the local electric utilities, their holding companies and unregulated affiliates.

The electricity industry in Ontario is undergoing significant change – how we generate it, how we use it, and how we conserve it. The energy needs and service expectations within our communities, as well as across Ontario, continue to evolve and grow at a rapid pace.


Currently, the City of Brantford, the City of Cambridge, the Township of North Dumfries are exploring a potential merger of holding companies Brantford Energy Corporation and Cambridge and North Dumfries Energy Plus Inc. and affiliates, including Brantford Power Inc. and Energy+ Inc.  More information is included in the Memorandum of Understanding.

Municipal shareholders are reviewing the merger opportunity before them and are planning to make a decision in August 2021, whether to proceed with a merger or not proceed.
